CMS is calling for proposals to participate in the Medicare Health
Quality Demonstration. The program's goal is to improve care for Medicare beneficiaries
through the use of best-practice guidelines, continuous improvements in quality
and patient safety, shared decision making between providers and patients, and
the delivery of culturally and ethnically appropriate care. CMS will select eight
to 12 health systems, medical groups and regional health system/medical group
combinations to participate in five-year demonstrations.

Prospective Applicant Conference Agenda

On Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, CMS will host an informational conference
for prospective applicants for the Medicare Health Care Quality demonstration
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Topics to be covered include health information technology
in health care system redesign, clinical support and shared decision making tools,
data availability for proposal development and demonstration payment methodologies.
NOTE:
In order to gain access to the HHS building and grounds, individuals must present
photographic identification to the Federal Protective Service or Guard Service
personnel before being allowed entrance.
A

issued a resource sheet for potential applicants of the Medicare Health Care Quality
Demonstration Program. The sheet contains information on health information technology
(HIT) activities that entities applying for the program may find useful in considering
how to incorporate HIT and clinical data exchange into a system redesign to achieve
the goals of the demonstration.
